Why go on a training camp?

No matter what goals you’ve set yourself for 2019, an early season training camp in the south of Europe is hands down the best way to kick start your race fitness. Not only do you get to pack in a solid block of high intensity riding in without the distractions of work (or family), you also get to escape the last icy tendrils of a miserable northern European winter and it’s potholed roads.

Mallorca has become the destination for discerning riders over recent years. With a favourable climate, easy transport links, a vast array of accommodation and a superb variety of routes, including those which snake up and over the Serra de Tramuntana - the island’s stunning mountainous backbone. Upwards of 250,000 cyclists visit annually, including numerous professional teams, in a riding season that runs from January until early June.

There are many performance benefits of an early season training camp. The ability to ride day in, day out is a rare privilege for the average working Joe, with zero distractions you can concentrate on completing a training block that will reap benefits later on in the year. If your plans include mountainous sportives or events such as the Haute Route, then the terrain allows you to prepare on the types of climbs that you just don’t find at home. By booking a trip early, you also book yourself motivation to train hard over winter to arrive in good shape to make the most of your camp.

Service Course have been running bespoke training camps on Mallorca since we were founded and our team of coaches have also organised trips to the island for many years before that, as well as training there themselves for decades. Our ride guides intimate knowledge of island, combined with top-level coaching expertise and back-up from a highly experienced squad of physios and mechanics, provides an unrivalled training experience.

The performance coaching element of a Service Course training camp is what sets us apart from other providers. As well as coaches who have worked at Olympic and Commonwealth Games level, our team also includes members who have raced at an international level. They will work on skills and techniques to make you a better rider as well as a fitter, faster one.

We have a few places available on our first training camp of 2019 - a four day camp in March using a boutique finca hotel nestled in the foothills of the Tramuntana with direct access to a wide selection of training routes.
